Support coordination is one of those NDIS supports where the right fit makes an enormous difference — and the wrong fit can quietly cost you months of momentum. Here are six questions worth asking before you commit to one.
1. How often will we actually talk? Some coordinators check in monthly, others weekly. Neither is wrong, but it should match what you need.
2. What’s their communication style? Do they explain things in plain language, or do you find yourself needing a follow-up call every time? You should never feel talked down to or left confused.
3. Do they know the local service landscape? A coordinator who genuinely knows Townsville’s providers will connect you faster than one working from a generic national list.
4. How do they handle it when a provider isn’t working out? This comes up more than people expect — a good coordinator has a straightforward process for it, not an awkward one.
5. Are they independent, or connected to a specific provider? Both models can work well, but you should know which one you’re getting and feel comfortable with it.
6. Do they involve you in decisions, or make them for you? Your plan, your goals — a good coordinator supports your decisions rather than replacing them.
If you’re between coordinators right now, we’re happy to talk through what to look for based on your specific goals.
